En ny søndag og en ny smakebit fra boken jeg leser. Dette er et boktema hos bloggen Flukten fra virkeligheten. Et boktema hvor du kan finne smakebiter fra en hel rekke flotte bøker.

Jeg har ikke fått lest så mye denne uken og holder fortsatt på med The WizBiz av Rick Cook. Den er kjempebra så det er ikke det som er problemet. Det er nok bare leselysten som er i en dal. Smakebiten i dag kommer fra en slåss-scene hvor helten Wiz bruker sin kunnskap innen dataprogrammering til å beherske magi;

“backslash” he said to the Emac. “$” the Emac responded, now ready and waiting for orders. “transport” he said and the Emac began to gabble silently translating the predefined macro spell into the words of power. “arg moira”. He raised the staff high over his head as the air began to waver and twist around him. “EXE” he shouted.
And the world went dark.

Forklaring; Emac er en liten nisse type vesen han har skapt ved hjelp av magi (og selvfølgelig en tidlig versjon av en Mac) og Moira er det stedet han vil dra til.

Fra forlaget;

It all began when the wizards of the White League were under attack by their opponents of the Black League and one of their most powerful members cast a spell to bring forth a mighty wizard to aid their cause. What the spell delivered was master hacker Walter “Wiz” Zumwalt. The wizard who east the spell was dead and nobody — not the elves, not the dwarves, not even the dragons — could figure out what the shanghaied computer nerd was good for. But spells are a lot like computer programs, and, in spite of the Wiz’s unprepossessing appearance, he was going to defeat the all-powerful Black League, win the love of a beautiful red-haired witch, and prove that when it comes to spells and sorcery, nobody but nobody can beat a Silicon Valley computer geek!
